About SEF
The Salina Education Foundation was incorporated in 1987 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization to benefit the students and staff of USD 305 Salina Public Schools and the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education’s Salina-based programs. The Salina Education Foundation was not intended to replace the school district’s regular source of revenue but rather to enhance the opportunities the Salina Public Schools are able to provide.
OUR MISSION
To promote and support educational excellence by providing resources to enhance opportunities for the students and staff of Salina’s public schools.
As part of this mission, the trustees of the Foundation:
- Manage and grow endowment funds, grants, and gifts for specific schools, programs, and scholarships
- Award grants to teachers seeking to enhance instruction
- Identify and support, through forgivable loans, outstanding Saline County residents seeking to become teachers in USD 305
- Build community awareness and support of the Salina Education Foundation
OUR VISION
Uniting the community to support excellent public schools
FAQs
The Foundation has provided $846,000 in grants to teachers and schools since 1993. We administer scholarships to Central and South High graduating seniors yearly. Additionally, we accept and administer donations for specific schools or programs. We administer a Foundation endowment as well as an endowment to support the Loan Initiative for Future Teachers (LIFT) program.
Every teacher in the district can apply for a grant from the Foundation. Some teachers in schools utilize the grant program more than others. The allocations committee is very careful to award funding equitably, but teachers must submit grant applications to be considered for funding. Unfortunately, the Foundation is not able to fund all the grant requests we receive.
You’re correct in saying that some of your tax money goes to the school district. The Foundation was created to help supplement the needs of our students beyond the tax dollars we receive. It is important to understand that the Salina Education Foundation is not a part of the school district. Although we are great partners, we are a not-for-profit organization. Therefore, your donations do not become part of the school district’s funds.
